WordPress to Astro Migration

Move your WordPress site to Astro and ship a faster, cheaper, more secure website — without losing your content, SEO, or traffic.

Why migrate WordPress to Astro

Dramatically faster pages

Astro ships static HTML by default. No PHP runtime, no database per request, no plugin bloat — pages load in milliseconds instead of seconds.

Lower running costs

Drop managed WordPress hosting, caching plugins, and CDN add-ons. A static Astro site runs on cheap or free static hosting.

Stronger security

No WordPress core, no themes, no plugins to patch. A static build removes the most common attack surface for CMS-driven sites.

Better Core Web Vitals

Astro ships zero JavaScript by default, which clears LCP, INP and CLS targets that WordPress struggles to hit.

Full content ownership

Your posts and pages live in Markdown or MDX in your repo — versioned, diffable, and free from vendor lock-in.

Modern tooling

TypeScript, component islands, and Tailwind replace fragile PHP templates and shortcodes.

How the migration works

  1. Step One

    Audit & discovery

I map your current WordPress structure: posts, pages, taxonomies, redirects, images, and integrations.

  2. Step Two

    Content export

Posts and pages are exported from WordPress and converted to Markdown/MDX, preserving formatting, images, and metadata.

  3. Step Three

    Build the Astro site

I scaffold the Astro project, port your design, wire up components, and migrate any custom functionality.

  4. Step Four

    SEO & redirects

URL structure is preserved or mapped with 301 redirects, and on-page SEO (titles, meta, schema, sitemap) is carried over.

  5. Step Five

    Launch & handover

We deploy to static hosting, verify performance scores, and I hand over the repo with documentation.

WordPress to Astro — frequently asked questions

Will I lose my SEO rankings?+

No. I preserve your URL structure or set up 301 redirects, carry over titles and meta descriptions, and keep your sitemap and robots rules intact so search rankings hold.

What happens to my blog posts?+

Every post is exported from WordPress and converted to Markdown, including images, headings, and formatting. You keep full ownership of the content in your repo.

Can I still edit content without a developer?+

Yes. I can wire up a headless CMS like Sanity or Keystatic so you can edit content through a dashboard, or you can edit Markdown files directly.

How long does a WordPress to Astro migration take?+

A typical blog or marketing site takes 1–3 weeks depending on the number of pages, custom functionality, and integrations that need rebuilding.

Do you handle ecommerce migrations?+

For stores I usually pair Astro with a headless commerce backend (Shopify, Stripe). Get in touch and I'll scope it for your setup.
